Animal Shelter Training June 8 2010

Summer is here and we are gearing up for fun!





But we still work hard at our skills like drawing!



After some games we go to the San Marcos Animal Shelter to get trained to safely have fun with animals and help out the community!



Training is exciting :)

Calligraphy Lesson Part II May 20 2010

Today was the second part of Elmo's calligraphy lesson.

We warmed up for writing calligraphy by writing with light or glow sticks at the YSB.

This one took a lot of practice!



This is Neil dancing around with glowsticks bracelets...



Elmo showed us how to practice the basic strokes in Old English calligraphy...



Then Elmo asked us to practice writing our family surname's history which she printed out for us and even found our ancient family crests!

Eugene's family name is Irish!

Calligraphy Lesson Part I May 18 2010

Another Elmo lesson...she likes to do art lessons in pieces now...

First Elmo talked to us about how warm colors (reds, yellows, oranges) pop out at viewers in art and how cool colors are pushed back or don't draw as much attention (blues, greens, purples).

Then Elmo had us warm up for writing calligraphy by writing our own names! Also we used 3d chalk which helped us really see how warm colors pop up and cool colors go back!

Frame Art April 28 2010

Today Elmo taught us how to do two different things...

First she showed us how to cut insulation board and start making it into a frame...



Then she showed us how to draw patterns on the boards...





And finally fill in those patterns with glue so that when dried, the areas not glued will melt away and create texture. The texture making process or melting is still to come but we got pretty far!
