We had some serious fun with the Texas State group CrossTalk who treated us to some hot dogs and a day of fun and games. Check out these happy faces! YSB is a fun place to be.

Back in the Groove.....
As we settle back into our school schedules we're also busy getting back out into the community and helping wherever we can. We recently volunteered at the Nature Center potting plants and enjoying the outdoors.

Hearts and Hooves meets a local nursing Home
When the minis arrived at the nursing home from the Hearts and Hooves ranch, they had to take a restroom and grass-eating break before entering.
We took the horses inside to go meet the residents.
The residents were eager meet them, and one visitor was small enough to go on pony ride
around the facility!
There were dogs too - all therapy animals.

One of YSB's lovely volunteers gave a presentation about career paths. Here, we are using a program on the computer to match us to a variety of career options.

Another adventure at the Hearts and Hooves rescue ranch
This visit, we walked a horse through a short maze to self-reflect. The therapy horses are said to behave as reflections of ourselves.
We were encouraged to talk to the horses. If their ears are perked up, they are listening.

LBJ Wildflower Center Seed Reserve Collection
We had a wonderful tour of the seed collecting laboratories, and we learned a bit about how the process works. How do you know what plants the seeds are for? You make this lovely presentation of each plant, but not the poisonous ones!
We were put to work. Get out the tweezers and remember to breathe; this work requires patience and a good set of eyes. Don't waste any seeds! You never know when we might need these.
OOh, so many seeds.

Our visit at the Hearts and Hooves rescue farm
We were encouraged to express ourselves to the horses and use this experience in a therapeutic way.

There were mini-ponies, horses, and dogs - all rescued and being well-loved and cared for. So beautiful!

We took a trip to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. We saw a great Origami art exhibit and many gorgeous wildflowers and plants.

Zoo adventure July 20th, 2009
Today we went to the super awesome cool zoo!
While traveling the scenic route some of us went crazy in anticipation!
We ventured outside and met a camel and pony that were friends. We still don't know why that is, but we suspect they are up to no good. The director said they were stolen once which got the zoo a lot of media attention. We think they were trying to escape so they could fly to the Caribbean!
He also lures visitors over and tricks them into feeding/petting him.
He even makes people cry! Look how devestated she is!
The camel's friend, a pony, was also excellent at tricking people to pet him.
Then a deer came out of the woods and attacked us for food! Just kidding! She was really shy!
The lion was kinda tired and hot looking. I don't know why he is so tired since males in lion prides don't hunt, the females do!
I'm sorry Mr. Lion I didn't mean it! There was also a friendly tiger. I invited
him to come spend the day with us but he
said he had better plans already.

At the end Julie bought us snow cones!
They were yummy!
